New Store Openings

A New Flagship for American Eagle Opens in Soho!

Last week saw the opening of a second Manhattan flagship for American Eagle – located at 599 Broadway (Cnr of Houston) in Soho – a 24,000 square-foot, three level store! Now three times the size of it’s previous location just down the road – the world of American Eagle including women’s, men’s, Aerie – their lingerie line -  and Accessories – an exploding category of business for AEO – is well represented in an industrial space with a minimalist feel, exposed duct work, polished concrete floors, brick walls and lot’s of warm wood work. Unlike it’s neighbor across the road – Hollister – this store is bright, accessible and easy on the eye! Should be a winner!

Barney’s Co-Op Opens In Brooklyn!

My home town of Brooklyn just got a little more fashionable with the addition of a 10,000-square-foot Barney’s Co-Op at 194 Atlantic Avenue (@ Court Street, Cobble Hill) between Trader Joe’s and Urban Outfitters! The gentrification of Brooklyn – and in particular – Atlantic Ave continues – as Barney’s confidence in opening this fabulous new store is sure to lure other important retailers to the area. And, I for one – don’t think that’s a bad idea! Housing women’s, men’s and accessories the store offers up a range of collections and fashionable items that are just a tad less expensive than what is available at Barney’s New York. It’s a great mix that will appeal to the hip – and a great reason to come and visit Brooklyn!

Ralph Lauren Opens His New Mansion on Madison Avenue!

Directly across the road from the Rhinelander Mansion on Madison Ave @ 72nd Street, Ralph Lauren has unveiled his first women’s only flagship – a 22,000-square-foot Beaux Arts building with a facade of Indiana limestone. Such a building has not been seen or built since the Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts and the Astors ruled New York! Four floors connected by a sweeping grand marble staircase presents salons with a residential feel and a Parisian flair with paneling, moldings and all the intricate detailing one has come to expect from Ralph Lauren. Luxury retailing at it’s very best! From the ground floor housing accessories – bags, shoes, fine jewelry, scarves and belts – to the upper floors housing the Collection, the Black label, the Blue label and the RLX line to Ralph Lauren Home on the fourth floor – this glamorous environment is a sight to behold.

Rick Owens Launches At Bergdorf Goodman!

Avante garde designer – Rick Owens – gets the ‘shop in shop’ treatment on Bergdorf Goodman’s ‘Advanced Designer’ 3rd floor. Owens influence can be felt across the market with asymmetrically cut and draped layered looks in the most luxurious fabrics and yarns. In a range of ‘muddy’ hues gothic influences are key. It’s somewhat surprising to see just how far his influence extends and how his ‘look’ has become a favorite for women who love discreet luxury – in a dressed down kinda way!
