Forever 21 Opens on Times Square!

A four-level, 90,000 plus-square-foot flagship Forever 21 store opened on Times Square on Friday – at 1540 Broadway! With a sales projection of $100 million for the first year – expectations are high – and will not disappoint the Junior customer!

Open daily – from 8.00AM until 2.00AM – with 151 fitting rooms, 32 cash registers and 500 employees – this brand new store will be their most productive with the highest traffic flow.

Housing the full range of womenswear – including Love 21 – a new contemporary brand targeting a more sophisticated customer – men’s, accessories, shoes, kidswear and lingerie – the shopping experience is bound to be a fun one!

Superdry Opens A Flagship on Broadway!

Research thru some NY based blogs – describing the new 6,000 sq. ft ‘Superdry’ flagship at 718 Broadway, NOHO (btw Washington Pl. & Waverly Pl.) and their aesthetic – has surely got allot of potential customer’s confused. Is it Japanese? Is it English? Is it an Abercrombie wannabe? Is it for hipsters? Or is it even hip – with all those logos? Well, first of all it’s British – and has recently turned up at both Macy’s (not exactly a hip connection) and Bloomingdale’s. It’s kinda like a Uniqlo with a vintage ‘Western’ or ‘All American’ twist – that is British in heritage – and Japanese in spirit. And yes, it’s kinda hip in an Urban Outfitters kinda way. Confusing? I would certainly suggest a strong marketing campaign to set things straight!

All Saints Opens In Soho – Finally!

After some delays, British retailer All Saints Spitalfields opens at 512 Broadway, Soho (btw Spring & Broome) and it’s a beauty! Approximately 13,000 square feet in an industrial/loft like setting, All Saints dark and unconstructed aesthetic will have surprisingly wide appeal. Decorated with searchlights recovered from the Suez Canal, walls of vintage sewing machines and a huge loom from a mill in Sheffield, UK – the clothes still remain the key focus. Men’s, Women’s, Kids & Accessories.

The Limelight Marketplace Opens!

On 6th Ave @ 20th Street, this historic 163-year-old venue has been transformed into a three story marketplace. The Limelight was a church, then later an infamous nightclub where I spent more than one or two ‘hazy’ nights in the late 80′s – and now it’s a shopping mall! Housing more than 60 vendors including: Hunter Boots, Havaianas, Caswell Massey, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, LeSportsac, Brocade Home, It’s Sugar and Selina Optics, the Limelight Marketplace has become home to a mix of food, beauty, fashion, home and art stores. Definitely worth a visit to see it’s gothic splendor restored!

WHO.A.U. Debuts on 34th Street – in Manhattan!

After and out of town try out in Paramus, New Jersey, Korea’s WHO.A.U. debuts in New York – on 34th Street between 5th & 6th Ave. I don’t know if this saying resonates with Americans but in any other Commonwealth country we would say – “It’s a bit like bringing coals to Newcastle” (Newcastle being a coal mining town!). It’s a little like Hollister, allot like Abercrombie & Fitch, not quite as focused as Aeropostale and similar to American Eagle – with ‘all American’ classics inspired by the Californian lifestyle – designed by Koreans – in Korea! In a time when those retailers are suffering – and young customer’s are looking for a more individual look – I just don’t know whether this is going to work! Do we even need another ‘inspired by the Californian lifestyle’ concept? Juries out on this one!

Direct from Spain, Desigual opens a brand new store on 34th Street – between 5th & 6th Ave. Quirky, a little strange and most certainly – eclectic – Desigual – is expanding their reach in Manhattan.
