Hollister Opens a Flagship on 5th Avenue!

After subjecting myself to the indignity of having to wait behind the velvet rope, I was ushered into what would have to be the most disappointing store to have opened in New York in recent times. (Well, that’s a pretty big statement because Dash – Kim Kardashian’s attempt at retail – was also pretty bad!). Hollister at 668 Fifth Avenue – much smaller than their Soho flagship – covers two floors, is cave like dark – and packed to rafters with tourists! Not a New Yorker in sight! As far as the merchandise is concerned – same sh–, different day! Plaid shirt anyone?

A New Flagship for American Eagle Opens in Soho!

Last week saw the opening of a second Manhattan flagship for American Eagle – located at 599 Broadway (Cnr of Houston) in Soho – a 24,000 square-foot, three level store! Now three times the size of it’s previous location just down the road – the world of American Eagle including women’s, men’s, Aerie – their lingerie line - and Accessories – an exploding category of business for AEO – is well represented in an industrial space with a minimalist feel, exposed duct work, polished concrete floors, brick walls and lot’s of warm wood work. Unlike it’s neighbor across the road – Hollister – this store is bright, accessible and easy on the eye! Should be a winner!
